A psychological assessment is a process designed to better understand an individual’s thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences. Assessments differ from therapy in that the aim is to understand and describe your current psychological states from multiple points of view, state rather than making changes or providing support. An assessment done by a psychologist can also lead to a formal diagnosis.
Assessments can help clarify diagnoses, uncover the factors that contribute to psychological distress and gain a bigger-picture understanding of functioning and needs in different areas. This can provide valuable insights to guide therapy or other supports.
I offer assessment services for adolescents and adults aged 16-60 years old.
Psychological assessments can be beneficial for those who:
Seek to clarify a diagnosis or diagnoses
Struggle to identify the appropriate forms of treatment or support to move forward
Have felt stuck or like treatment for their psychological difficulties has been unhelpful
Are experiencing new challenges and struggling to understand changes in their emotions, functioning or behaviour
Want to gain a deeper understand of themselves
When in doubt, we recommend scheduling a free 15-minute introduction call during which we can discuss your needs and hopes, and answer any questions to help you determine whether a psychological assessment might be the right next step for you or not. Use this form to request an introduction call.
Our in-depth neurodiversity-affirming assessments aim to help you make sense of your life experiences through the lens of neurodivergence, while establishing whether you meet criteria for a diagnosis of autism, ADHD and/or related conditions. Common co-occuring diagnoses such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma- and stress- related conditions and more may be considered as part of this comprehensive neurodiversity assessment. Because neurodivergence is complex and many individuals have overlapping experiences consistent with more than one conditions, we prefer to assess for these together, rather than looking for one diagnosis in isolation.
Comprehensive neurodiversity assessments are priced at a package rate of $4000 (including full report, $3750 including diagnostic letter).
Our approach to assessment is collaborative, personalized and neurodiversity-affirming. We rely primarily on interviewing (as opposed to testing) in order to honour the depth and complexity of your unique life experiences.
Visit the Autism & ADHD Assessment page to learn more about how we conduct these assessments.
A targeted assessment that aims to answer a specific question or clarify a specific diagnosis. For example, professionals like social workers, psychotherapists or family physicians may refer a person for a targeted psychological assessment if they suspect the person might have a specific disorder that impacts their treatment plan. Individuals may also seek this type of assessment if they would like a second opinion on a diagnosis they received from another professional or if they suspect they meet criteria for a particular condition.
Targeted assessments are priced at $290 per hour of work, including face-to-face interviewing and testing time, scoring and interpretation of tests and questionnaires, and report- or letter-writing. This is to ensure that cost is proportional to the complexity of the assessment. In other words, this pricing structures allows me to ensure that you only pay for the number of hours actually required to complete the assessment.
